Interventional Cardiology

UF Health Interventional Cardiology Faculty

Mission Statement

The mission of the interventional cardiology program within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Florida is to offer complete and state-of-the-art treatment to patients with a wide variety of disease states while providing world class training to fellows in the field of interventional cardiology. To achieve this we have a complete commitment to patient care, beginning with a comprehensive assessment that occurs in either the inpatient or outpatient setting involving the care of patients across a broad spectrum of disorders including coronary artery, peripheral, and structural heart disease. Patients are treated with the most up-to-date guideline-based medical therapies and, when appropriate, the application of techniques provided in the cardiac catheterization laboratories. Patients are cared for with an emphasis on rapid treatment when acutely ill, a reduction in the need for hospitalization, an improvement in quality of life, and close continuity of care during follow up. The educational experience for fellows occurs simultaneously with the care of our patients. This encompasses a broad experience in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, robust clinic and consultative training, and an emphasis on research. Interventional cardiology fellows are immersed in all aspects of the care of our patients from the clinic to the procedure suite. They are also involved in clinical research at the local, regional, and national levels. By achieving our mission it is hoped that both patients and providers will view the interventional cardiology program at the University of Florida as their first choice for care from the simple to the complex.

Applicants

The University of Florida Training Program in Interventional Cardiology has three fellowship positions accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Applicants must be completing or have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in cardiovascular disease. The interventional fellowship is of one year’s duration beginning on July 1st of each academic year. Training includes cardiac interventional procedures, some peripheral vascular procedures, interventional cardiology consultation, and interventional research. Upon completion of the program, fellows are eligible to take the American Board of Medicine (ABIM) board examination in interventional cardiology.
